36. Eurasia Marathon – Istanbul, 16 November 2014.
Nowhere else in the world can you cross a bridge that spans a waterway that separates two continents. Istanbul straddles the Bosphorus straits and has one foot on the European continent and one foot in Asia. Once a year, the city authorities give permission for the trans-continental bridge to be closed to vehicular traffic for the running of the Eurasia Marathon – the bridge is always closed to pedestrian traffic except on this marathon day. Halfway across the bridge you are literally suspended in the air between the two continents.
The course is asphalt. All events start on the Asian side of Istanbul, and end on the European side, passing many of the most beautiful sights of the city en route. The finish of the full Marathon and the 15 km is in the Sultanahmet district, at the Hippodrome - one of the oldest sporting arenas in the world boasting many historical monuments including the 3,500-year-old Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius. The 8km and the Fun Run finish at Dolmabahçe Palace, which served as the main administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire from 1853 to 1922.
Whether you are running the 42km, 15km or 8km you will may some time before the race to acclimatise to the venue, and some time after the race to relax and recover. We can take care of all your arrangements for you, including your entry registration and issuance of your running number, accommodation, transport, extra sightseeing and touring.
